Privacy Policy

blep is a free, open-source Bluetooth (BLE) pointer & tracker. It is built to be private by design: no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. Everything blep does happens on your device.

The short version

blep does not collect, store, or transmit your personal data. It never sends your Bluetooth scans, location, or sensor readings anywhere — there is no blep server, and we have no way to see how you use the app.

What the app accesses, and why

• Bluetooth. blep scans for nearby Bluetooth Low Energy devices and reads their signal strength to point you toward the one you're looking for. Scan results are processed live on your device and are not recorded or sent anywhere.
• Location (optional). On older Android the operating system requires location permission to perform any Bluetooth scan at all. Separately, the anti-tracking safety scan has an opt-in, off-by-default setting that reads a coarse location so it can tell a tracker that follows you across different places from the familiar devices around you day to day. When enabled, the coarse location is bucketed to an approximate area and used only on the device — never stored as exact coordinates, never logged off-device, never transmitted. The finder itself derives direction from your motion sensors, not from GPS.
• Motion sensors. blep reads the compass, accelerometer, and (where available) barometer to figure out which way you're facing and how you're moving, so it can draw the on-screen guidance. These readings stay on the device.

Data we collect

None. blep has no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising IDs, and no third-party SDKs that phone home. Any device names you assign are stored only in the app on your phone.

Donations

If you choose to support blep, the “Help & donate” link opens an external payment provider (Stripe, PayPal, Open Collective, or GitHub Sponsors) in your browser. Those services process your payment under their own privacy policies; blep never sees or stores your payment details.

Children

blep is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. Because blep is open source, the full history is public on GitHub.
